Update: Philebrity Trickle-Up Theory Snaps Into Action, SweaterGate Goes National

argyleAnd still, we’re the only people in the media who have the balls to say, “DON’T KLON YRSELF DUDE, THE SWEATER IS RAD.” Since we chastised probable Old Navy shopper Catherine Lucey the other day for not knowing the current fashion-forward resurgence of the beloved argyle print, and taking said lack to the Mayor’s doorstep, the story has appeared everywhere from NBC10 to, er, MSNBC. NBC10 even went so far as so make a little graphic of Dude next to Bill Cosby in his horrendous “Cosby sweater” prime. But this is one of those stories that says more about the unsophisticated tastes of the people crying foul than it does about the subject itself. However, it’s kind of burning us up that Nutter keeps on trying to distance himself from the sweater because, in our fried brains, we can draw a direct correlation to this kind of pandering to the rampant anti-intellectualism in American politics, The Age Of American Unreason, etc. So that’s where we’re at with it. We can’t wait until Chris Matthews jumps on the bandwagon.
