Boyd Theater Lands In The Hands Of Developers Who See Hotels, Restaurants, Shows In Its Future

boydWhen we last checked in on the ongoing saga of the Boyd Theater last month, it had finally been granted an all-important designation on the Philly Register Of Historic Places. Now comes even better news: It’s been acquired by the development firm of ARCWheeler, whom you may know from such projects as 10 Rittenhouse Square and The Lofts on Rittenhouse. Their plans for the now-historic theater? Well, first off, ARCWheeler says they’re going to build a Kimpton Monaco Hotel (perhaps this is Stephen Starr’s golden opportunity to partner up with someone on that whole hotel concept he’s been asking Santa for), two restuarants (natch), and they’re going to enter into an agreement with Live Nation (the Boyd’s previous owner) to get some live music and whathaveyou in there. Not bad. What is the bad news, then? ARCWheeler wants the state to put up half the $30M that will be needed for renovations. Will it happen? Who knows. And when? Don’t ask.
