Philebrity Cribs: Saturday Rain-Soaked TV Fest Interrupted By Scorching Case Of House Envy
You know, things were going great during Monsoon ’08 on Saturday: We had a nice little stash of junk food, the weather outside was frightful, and all was well. And then we happened upon the episode of Renovation Nation called “Fishtown, PA: Geo Thermal Heating and Cooling”, and we learned the upshot of living behind the old KFC/Long John Silver’s that is now closed and painted brown in the hopes that someone, somewhere would turn it into a Starbucks franchise. (You think we’re kidding, but really: Barring the place simply called “Coffee Shop” — highly recommended BTW — down the street that is the only place in the ‘hood that serves La Colombe, the coffee shops of Fishtown need to be smited by God so badly that perhaps only a Starbucks could up the ante. But that’s a whole other post.) Anyway, the upshot of all this, as we were saying, is that you can make some crazy modern palace that is completely hidden from the bustle and no one would ever know. And this place is kind of like that. Actually, it’s more like if you went down a manhole at Fifth and Cecil B, and came up only to find you were in the Beatles’ mansion from Help!. Only instead of that cool bed-in-the-floor thing, you have a geothermal pump that makes your whole heating and energy bills just $120 a month at the peak of winter. Spacious? You have no idea. Modern amenities: Did you hear me when I said “geothermal pump?” Oh, jalousie: You truly are one green bitch.

Damn those mellow-harshing, scorching cases of anything. Which reminds me, my Monsoonfest ’08 could have really used some John Hughes. Oh well, at least there was the semi-entertaining rerun of VH1′s 100 Greatest Songs of the 80′s.

I’m not a wuss; I just needed an excuse to be lazy for the first weekend all summer.
