FIRST ANNUAL PHILADELPHIA DJ DAY

Philly-born DJs to descend upon city for mass photo shoot and the most gigantic party to ever hit Rittenhouse

PHILADELPHIA (September 8, 2008) – Friends, Romans and countrymen, lend us your ears! On Wednesday, September 24 at 2:00 P.M. at Forrest Hill (4849 N. Parkside Avenue) Jonene Taddei and I, Kamau Stanford, present the First Annual Philadelphia DJ Day!

After years of reaping their aural contributions to the international, national and local music scene, we came up with the idea to chronicle the greatness that is the Philadelphia DJs. We figured what better way to pay homage to the folks who have given Philly – and the whole world – so many beautiful grooves, than to bring them together for a big “Gordon Park-esque” shot. So we went after old school cats like Cash Money to new school dudes like White Tees and White Belts and of course the legend, DJ Jazzy Jeff, to be a part of it all. We’ve even contacted Mayor Michael Nutter, as he too once was a Philadelphia DJ. If all goes well, he’ll pass an ordinance proclaiming September 24 as Philadelphia DJ Day!

Prepare yourself for a turnout of well over 100 of Philly’s top turntablists, including: AM, Jazzy Jeff, Ahmir ?uestlove, Drama, Schoolly D, Rich Medina, King Britt, Dozia, Bo Bliz, Emyd, Cosmo Baker, Kid Swft, Tat$, Brendan Bring’Em, Code$, Cash Money, Touch Tone, Cannon, Excel, Diamond Kut, Skeme, Frosty, Gary O, Jay Yo, Kenny Meez, Kinetic, Mike Nyce, Ran, Rob Paine, Romes, Static, Steve Bloodbath, Ultra Violet, Sammy Slice ….and Mix Master Mike a.k.a Mayor Michael Nutter! We’ll convene them all at the majestic Forrest Hill mansion nestled in lovely Fairmont Park, in front of Jonene’s lens for some serious money shots.

But we couldn’t stop there! What do you do after you’ve amassed all of Philly’s major local turntable talents? Logically, you throw a killer after party. Join us and Paperstreet later that night for some ruckus-making like Rittenhouse Square has never seen! We’ll have drinks flowing, bodies moving, and records spinning, and with so many dope DJs on hand, you know we’ll leave no music genre untouched. Might we even see our own Mayor Nutter spin a set? Only those smart enough to attend will find out.

And if that wasn’t enough, we’ll continue to inundate the senses November 3rd through November 7th with a weeklong photo gallery event showing off the music-inspired photography of Jonene Taddei (www.jonenetaddei.deviantart.com), Lenyon Withaker (www.lenyon.blogspot.com), and SnapKracker (www.myspace.com/kulterbizz), and of course the unveiling of the Philadelphia DJ Day photos. We’re contacting all of Philly’s major press (print, audio and television), to be a part of all of these events.

That dj from Star Productions should have been on the list too…he’s most definitely one of Philly’s better disc jockey’s when it comes to blending.
