Soundway: The Site That Spawned One Thousand DJ Night Sites

AS TOLD BY DAVE PAK: I guess we started soundway.com as a means to promote Sorted. This was around June or July of 1998 and at the time the www seemed relatively new and totally exciting. Back then, you could just go into chat rooms and randomly make friends with tons of like-minded people which made it dead easy to promote the parties with a couple email blasts and a website. Once we put up our message board, the traffic really started to take off, but it also marked the beginning of the end of what I thought could be done with the site – concert listings, promo other parties, etc. It was pretty obvious though that once the board had gotten so out of hand, people started jumping to other sites and it just sort of died out.

The site still exists, but it hasn’t been updated in years, except for maybe a random message board posting or two. One of these days, we’ll get around to making a new site. Who knows though? The internet really changes up so fast, that at this point, we might just have to continue running with the late 90’s / pre-millenium look to stay one step ahead. I totally miss the days when everyone had their own DIY website and just sort of went for it. It was truly punk.

Dave Pak has DJ’ed Philly’s legendary Sorted! dance party for the last 10 years.
