Oh, And Also? Pineapple Express Is Fucking Awesome.
We meant to mention this yesterday, when the movie opened, but we saw Pineapple Express on Monday night at one of those freebie screenings and, not to put too fine a point on it, IT RULED. It’s been forever since we’ve seen a Pulp Fiction-esque movie like this where there’s comedy, action and violence all rolled up together, LIKE A BIG FAT DOOB, and smoked as one. James Franco is actually really, really great in a comic role, which never would have occurred to us otherwise, Seth Rogen is basically the same Seth Rogen character he is in all of the other Seth Rogen movies, and the plot is hazy and weird and all this points to, really, is that this is one of those movies where the sum is greater than its parts. And coupled with The Wackness, which we also loved in that stoned-out 90s nostalgia kind of way, you have a great day at the movies and at least a temporary cure for your Late Summer Megabummer. Don’t even act like you’re not on one. oh great. now when i go see it for the 2nd through 50th time, the theaters will be packed. thanks for letting the monkey out of the bottle.

I saw David Gordon Green speak twice. Once for his overrated, overwrought, & overtly pretentous debut “George Washington” and again a couple of years later for his confused mess of a third flick, Undertow. To say I hold contempt for the guy and his work is an understatement. It doesn’t help matters that he wants to remake Dario Argento’s Suspiria – oh and thanks go to Diablo Cody and her abortion of a movie (no pun intended) Juno for letting every American asshole know about that film.
Now DGG has blessed us with a stoner sell-out flick. Yippie. You know what. If The Last Mistress is still showing at the Ritz at the Bourse…go see that.
