This Weekend: “Who Knows Why People Do What They Do?”

FRIDAY:
>>> There’s really quite a lot to get into this weekend — so much so that you should really just check out Philebrity Listings — but we’ll try to make some sense of it anyway: Silence the little record store jerk inside you that besmirches She & Him as “easy listening.” What, pray tell, is so suspect about ease? If you go, join us and Jersey Dan for the afterparty.
>>> But there is also an alarming array of other live music of note: MGMT, who we kind of hate on principle but acknowledge that their shit is catchy as hell, play at Starlight Ballroom. Sold out, but work it, work it. Meanwhile, An American Chinese, one of the more interesting Philly bands to emerge in the last year (think first-album Talking Heads plus lots of acoustic guitar squeezed into the hyper-hyper rhythm section) headlines the Khyber. And Coldplay is at the Wach, in case you wanna don your Civil War re-enactor gear.
>>> Sorry, everybody, we let the Rockists take over the opening shots of weekend picks. If sweat and dance is your thing, Making Time at Transit is a Viking funeral for danserock, so send it off well. We’re more concerned with Sweetjane Records Presents Delta Phi Disco with Lovefingers, Ron Morelli, Ari G, Relaxer, Speculator, and Josh Dunn in a BYOB event at Pi Lam. What?

SATURDAY:
>>> Nothing I’d go out of my way to go to, but let’s play the “what-if” game anyway:

M Room: Tall Firs (Ecstatic Peace Records), Kurt Vile, National Eye. 9pm.
Tritone: Sugartown:: Victor Victor Band, Surgeon, Frisky or Trusty, DJ Lizbot. 10pm.

You could do worse.

Wachovia Center: An evening with George Michael. All Ages. 8pm. $24-$253.

I take it back, I’d give my left gay to go to this. What do I have around the house that’s worth $253? Shit: Nothing. Nothing.

Barbary: Live Forever with JHN RDN, Designer Drugs plus special guest. 10pm-2am. $5.
Raven Lounge: Naughty Night presented by the East Coast Adult Network. $10/$25.

If you combined these two parties, you’d be pretty close to discovering a new, liquid/drinkable form of herpes. But you’d have fun anyway.

SUNDAY:
>>> Let’s keep our priorities in order here: There is nothing in your life happening on Sunday that is more important than the season premiere of Mad Men.
>>> That said, DVR that shit and go to Local Music Video Nite at Silk City. Think of all the eye candy you’ll get to experience in just one night!

Sunday, also: The Philadelphia Soul are playing in the ArenaBowl on Sunday in New Orleans. If they win the AFL championship does that count as a cure for our sports drought? I guess not quite, say my office colleagues.
