Captain Freeshit: Win Tickets To See Friendly Fires At Making Time
Gosh, it’s been a huge week for the Captain: First Spiritualized, then She & Him, both of which are still live, by the way. Hurry and enter! So on to today’s contest: When even Goldfrapp starts to dabble in folk, you know the window for electro-danse-rock is beginning to close. So think of Friendly Fires the last in the parade, and consider their intelligentsia funk for a moment; it’s already an artifact of sorts, as bands like The Presets approach the annoying ubiquity and musical brainfreeze (not the good kind) that was mostly ascribed to bands like, say, Dashboard Confessional a few years ago. That’s right, fuckers, I just said it: Danserock is the new Emo. Sorry! But musically, Friendly Fires are the closest to the sources that inspired the phenom in the first place: Factory Records stuff a la A Certain Ratio, New York overbite funk like Arthur Russell or the Talking Heads, and so on. They’re not bad. We don’t hate them! Anyway, I’m probably overthinking this; as the t-shirt says, fuck art, let’s dance. So we’ve got tickets to see Friendly Fires at Making Time at Transit this Friday. Do you still want them? Have I ruined it for you? Crud. To enter to win, send an email to ihopeiwin[at]philebrity[dot]com with “YOU DIDNT RUIN IT FOR ME!” in the subject header. To win, all you have to do is mean it.
