South Philly Finally Acquires Fourth Horseman Of The Apocolypse
First, came Joey Vento, who symbolized the great Ignorance displayed across the Souf Filly diaspora, where people of different ethnicities, who indeed personified the great American notion of “The Melting Pot,” yet still lived in abject hatred of one another, staring out their screen doors, making judgements they had no right to make; then came the Ladies Of Benna’s Calendar, which bore the markings of the Vanity of this New South Philadelphia, where yuppies carried their offspring in those obnoxious frontside-backpack things and bought all their groceries — seriously, everything, like even peanut butter — at Whole Foods. Oh, the Vanity! But there was more: In an awful display of Philistinism, the populace allowed Molly’s Books to close down, ignoring the fact that Molly’s was South Philadelphia’s most true and direct link back to this place as a Place of Ideas, where people could invent something out of nothing. Finally, came the West Nile Mosquitos, who symbolized a great Pestilence as God’s Revenge on this people, for crimes that all seemed stupid and needless, but on the other hand, inevitable.
Lord, hear our prayer.
