Spiritualized’s Songs In A And E has been one of the slow burners around here all summer long. Not as ostentatious as, say, Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space, it’s still every bit a Spiritualized album, just a lot more folksy — spaces blues, really — and, even in the dour Jason Spaceman ouvre, a pretty fucking major bummer. But it’s an enveloping sadness, if I may get all Old White Rock Critic about it, and it’s here where Spaceman finally meets his more teatotalling and very unlikely English counterpart: Morrissey? It’s worth thinking about, anyway. The Spiritualized live show does not disappoint on any level: There’s usually big lazers, loud, loud amps and even kind of a churchy vibe.
