Philadelphia Bicycle News is reporting that Mayor Nutter voted yes at the Conference of Mayors to “Ensure Bicycling Is Integrated Into National Transportation, Climate, Energy and Health Policy Initiatives.” The resolution encourages the development of safe bicycling as a national form of transportation and will urge Congress to reauthorize policies and fund biking instead of motor vehicles. Seeing as how Philadelphia has such a high biking population, this is really great news. Additional funding and new policies could increase the number of bike lanes, help reduce the number of bicycle-related accidents and even make Philly Bike Share happen sometime in the next century.
