Readers Cameraphone: Regarding Mexican Dope, John Belushi, Syphillis Of The Brain, Etc.

This may yet be the most valuable information we’ve ever gleaned off of a Shitty Paper honor box.

Seeing something around town of note? Cameraphone it to: tips[at]philebrity[dot]com.

we saw this around the corner from my office today. i pass it every day, but i’m so glad i stopped to get this valuable information.

This guy has been flyering his batshit-crazy ramblings all across Center City for years now. I think ground-zero is the gayborhood; I still haven’t determined whether the author is more likely to be drugged-out homeless guy, or a drugged-out UArts kid.

  5. C. The Impaler Says:

ResIpsa, yeah, though the flyers I’m used to seeing usually have some more overt religiosity mixed in with the dire warning politics. In my mind I’ve ruled out a single author, but a “school” of sorts. I don’t know if gayborhood is a base of operations or the bullseye of their target.

How much longer before Joey Vento posts that sign in his window?

    “Beautiful Mary” posters on Flickr

These have been appearing all over the country for a few years. It’s just one person, and it’s not an “art school prank”.

I think whoever is making these is probably transient, but based primarily in either Philly or Chicago.

There’s a blog somewhere (couldn’t find it just now) in which someone related their tale of running into the person who was pasting these up, and their funny interaction.

Didn’t Philebrity have a blog about these when people in south Philly were complaining about this guy putting the posters through their mail slots?

This is why I love the internet.

    The mystery deepens…

Rigghhtt, only one person can have access to a “schizoid magic marker” font, photoshop, and a photocopier. Sure it could be one person, but my money’s on an originator and a few imitators and/or helpers, call ‘em apostles. It’s really not hard to find examples of religio-political “crazy talk” of this sort in the graveyards of Usenet, back issues of Mondo2000′s “rant” page, heck even Francis E Dec had his imitators in the day.

Actually, this particular instance seems less inspired and all over the map than the works ResIpsa and WhollyGhost are pointing out.

If this were the work of one, solitary, dedicated individual, it’s sort of sad. I’m sticking to my Spartacus theory.
