Dumb Cop Hipster/Terror Plot Update: Media Can Of Whupass Officially Opened
As we noted yesterday, the tale of Daniel Moffat and his Ridge Avenue Posse is one of classic Philly police clusterfuckery. But as new details emerge, and the story hits the Internet, there may wind up being a different ending than the classic one we all know in which Cops Fuck With The Kids, The Kids Gotta Suck It Up. (And it’s here that we must mention that let’s give the Philly Police an ounce of credit here; while elements like the doofae who brought this into our world have always been at large in the FOP, so too is the element out there in the force, we imagine, that thinks this whole thing is just as much bullshit as you or I do.) In addition to Moffat & Co.’s press conference outside City Hall yesterday being somewhat of a media coup — it’s getting a lot of coverage — they also seem to have caught the ears of someone who can actually do something about all of this, says the Inky:
“What we heard so far concerns us,” said Kelvyn Anderson, deputy director for the Police Advisory Commission, who attended yesterday’s rally. “And we’re going to be informing these folks of their right to file a complaint.”
Meanwhile, the story is being picked up all over the place, and that can’t be a good thing for anyone hoping that the Ridge Ave. search, seizure, and subsequent half-ass incarceration might have an uninspected legal leg to stand on. Most notably in the blogosphere, perhaps, was BoingBoing picking up the story, which means that a blogsearch same time tomorrow will yield a lot more (although big ups to you, too, for getting the word out, Standford Law and, uhm, Ron Paul Forums). What’s next? Well, other than the champagne we just popped over finally getting linked on Domelights, I guess it’s wait and see.

The Philadelphia Police are so completely out of control that the only hope for justice would be a Citizen Review Board. This would be someplace that people who have been beaten, given the “thrill ride” in the back of the wagon and have been unjustly arrested by these scumbags could go for justice.
The review board should have subpoena power and the ability to discipline officers found guilty of abuse of power.
In addition, it should be possible to sue both the city and the police officer personally for damages.
Maybe a bitch slap like that will force a change.

They should be arrested if this is the actual place they were squatting in.

Even worse if tehy owned the place and let it look like that, they should be arrested.
