This Weekend: Saturdays = Youth

FRIDAY:
>>> We cannot tell a lie: M83’s Saturdays=Youth will probably be the best record released all summer and why there aren’t billboards for it on the road to Every Summer Place is beyond us. While the whole world is understandably excited about My Bloody Valentine getting back together, it’s our hope that M83 — and this record in particular — doesn’t get lost in the shuffle as some shoegaze throwback; it’s loaded with lackadaisical Kate Bush/synthpop/blissout 80s references, sure, but it’s also so much in the NOW that it feels like the future. The best kind of NOW. (Clip for “Graveyard Girl” at right.) The temperature is rising to melty levels as we speak, but brave it, and go to the First Unitarian Church Sanctuary to see this show. We get the feeling that you’ll be talking about it for years to come. A Sunny Day In Glasgow opens.
>>> The rest is the rest, but maybe you can make some kind of fun scavenger hunt out of the best of the rest:

SATURDAY:
>>> Get out yr suntan lotion and pick one: Roots Picnic at Festival Pier, Best Fest in Clark Park, NoLibs Rain Thing at Liberty Lands, BBQ at Your House, and Passing Out at Nine Pee Em. More info w/ lineups etc for all of this in listings.
>>> And rockists, put some calamine lotion on it and go back out for War On Drugs/Apes/Kurt Vile at Johnny Brenda’s and Swervedriver — Swervedriver!!! — at the TLA. Stop scratching it! You’ll only make it worse!

SUNDAY:
>>> Sunday belongs pretty much entirely to the Mad Decent Block Party with DJ Blaqstarr, Flosstradamus, Federation Sound, Dirty South Joe, DJ Sega, Dances With White Girls, Octamis Prime, Rye Rye, Soul Travelers and more, all in the out of doors around 12th and Spring Garden until the cops come. Dance with us, coppers! We know you like a rumpshaka. C’mon. No? One phone call, right?
>>> And wrap it all up with the new Sweet Jane Vintage night upstairs at Tattooed Mom’s. People, it is our civic duty to reclaim South Street (especially now that no one — seriously, no one — wants it) and just like we did with Old City, it is within our reach. Don’t fight it. Feel it.
