This Weekend: The Cradle Of Civilization!
FRIDAY:
>>> Remember a few weeks back, when there were no shows or dumb DJ nights in weekend picks, and instead, it was just stuff to do outside? I handily regard this as the Best Weekend Picks Ever. I’m tempted to do it again, but KYW’s calling for a FULL ON MONSOON on Saturday, so let’s play it like this: Get drunk OUTSIDE today and Sunday, and just stay inside and argue with your significant other all day on Saturday and just get it out of the way. But reserve that dread for tomorrow when it’s raining. Today, after work, hit up the St. George Greek Festival in Wash West/Gayb, and finally confess that you love the Greeks. Between George Michael, the roots of civilization and anal sex, there is NOTHING these people have not given us. Nothing! We could go on, but there’s dolmades in front of us. We’re already there.
>>> OK, let’s try to care about live music for a second: Clinic at JB’s, East Hundred at the Mill Creek, Jeremy Enigck/Damien Jurado at North Star, Circles/Notekillers at Pi Lam. All worthy, but we’re not going to any of that because it’s Friday night and it’s beautiful outside! What, are you crazy??? Here, have some grilled feta.
>>> Also outside-ish: The closing reception for Being True at 222 Gallery with Pink Skull and Yah Mos Def.
>>> OK, maybe go inside for dancing: The Hail Social Remixes Album is having its 34th release party at Medusa, Click is back at Fluid (which is very close to a Rita’s, FYI), and Beatles & Stones is at Barbary, who did seem very open to our idea a few weeks back of tearing off the roof of the club and putting a SKYBAR up there, like Vango or The Continental except with Generation Barbstacy up there every night instead of, you know, people with good grades, jobs, or spelling skillz.
SATURDAY:
>>> We didn’t do a press release of the week this week, but had we, it surely would have been this excerpt:
In case you missed it, Philadelphia’s own C!itallica just wrapped up their in-studio performance on 93.3 WMMR’s Preston & Steve show. After they shred through Metallica’s “Master of Puppets”, Preston called the all-girl group “awesome, fan-friggin’ tastic”, while weatherboy John Bolaris (who happened to be in the studio), described the young metal goddesses simply as “tight”. Ahem.
Clitallica — we’re assuming that exclamation point is an “L” — opens for Sabbra Cadabra, the World’s Greatest Black Sabbath Tribute Band, at Johnny Brenda’s.
>>> Dept of Rainouts: The South Philly Biennial and Art Star Craft Bazzar, it’s not looking good for either of you, but there is good news. The SPB’s rain date is Sunday, and Art Star runs through Sunday at Penn’s Landing. (Art Star CB site seems to be down at the moment, so get more info here.) Meanwhile, the cause for all rain on Saturdays ever in Philly, the Liberty Lands Fest, is also up in the air. Looking like Sunday’s gonna be awesome!
>>> Congrats to booker Joe Lekkas: His new production company’s break-in party is the Village Green Productions Kick Off Party featuring Gildon Works, Audible, Jukebox The Ghost, and Brown Recluse Sings (whom we’re super stoked on these days) with DJ Doug Wallen. All you can drink while supplies last, at the 941 Theater in NoLibs.
>>> Elsewhere: Final show ever at Big Jar Books with Jack Rose, Be Your Own Pet at the Nylon Tour at TLA, and ME, kicking your ass on Wii ALL AFTERNOON LONG! Whoo!
SUNDAY:
>>> If things like Beat Happening, Small Factory, Unrest, Tsunami, Velocity Girl, The Bats, The Chills, The Verlaines, Barbara Manning, Pavement, Teenage Fanclub, Huggy Bear, Riot Grrl, Sarah Records, and C86 mean anything to you, you will definitely want to get with the Love Rock Brunch at National Mechanics. New at NM: BUILD YOUR OWN BLOODY MARY BAR!
>>> Wrestling/Potter fans! Kaiju Big Battel + Harry & The Potters at the Trocadero. 4pm, all ages.
>>> And then all the stuff you were supposed to do on Saturday.

The Northern Liberties Music Festival has been canceled officially. This means that it won’t rain at all.
