Rumor Mill: Is Fox Afraid That The New M. Night Movie Stinks?

An editor friend passed this along: It looks as though 20th Century Fox may not be doing advance critics’ screenings for M. Night Shyamalan’s The Happening, due out Friday, June 13th. (Spooooooky! Trailer at right.) For those of you not in the biz, no advance screenings for critics is usually the studio’s only option when it comes to half-assed damage control, if they’re afraid a movie is gonna tank. And, boosts to the local film economy aside, Shyamalan’s have not done much in the way of, erm, entertaining people. But a blackout for critics could be the worst move of all — which only prompts us to think that this one might be really bad. Which, of course, is the risk you run when you make a movie about Markie Mark saving the planet.

Hmm no premiere in Philly? I think the last big one was Rocky revisted in 12/06.
