Musical Rumblings: What If God Was One Of Us?
>>>> We love it when we see local bands doing cool, ambitious things with video. So much props go out to Illuminea, who’ve done a whole video EP thing on blip.tv to complement their new non-video EP on High Two Records. Unrelated, but sort of related: There’s something very Gilmore Girls about this band, ne c’est pas? [Blip/HighTwo]
>>> Just added to the XPoNential Music Fest: Joan Osborne and Michael Franti & Spearhead. No, seriously.
>>> And finally, our deepest condolences go out to the friends and family of amp repair guy, John Martin, who passed away yesterday. John’s probably rescued more gear for more local bands than anyone can even say. As Sophy DiPinto put it on a local music listserv,
He was really much more than a repairman, as anyone who knew him would know, he was constantly rebuilding, and tweaking and turning cool-looking crappy sounding amps into amazing sounding works of art. He was a true one-of a-kind, I can’t imagine anyone taking his place.
Long may you run, John Martin.

John’s passing is a huge blow to the Philly music scene. His commitment to excellence and expertise are and will continue to be, quite simply: unmatched.
I wish to offer my sincerest condolences to John’s family and friends.
