Oh Snap: Popular Event Celebrating The Graffiti Arts Cancelled Due To… Too Much Graffiti

bbqIt has become a Philly staple over the last 8 years, but what would have been the 8th annual B-Boy BBQ — a day-long all-hip-hop affair with breakdancing, music and live graf renderings — will NOT be happening this year. According to 215HipHop, it sounds as though it’s been ousted from its longtime home at the playground at 12th and Carpenter streets in South Philly:

We received some sad news earlier this week that the B-Boy BBQ is going on a short hiatus and will NOT be happening this year. So yes, it is canceled! Mainly due to the uncontrollable amounts of vandalism that was occurring in the playground and to the surrounding neighborhood area.

The good news is that it sounds as if the BBQ isn’t deaded forever, it’s just looking for a new home. We can’t imagine that any other City playgrounds will exactly be lining up to do this, but here, friends, is where those local real estate developers looking for “edgy, underground” events could come in. Ahem. In any case, good luck to the B-Boy BBQers. You’ll be back. We just know it. You left a tag on the wall saying you would be.
