Philebrity Cribs: Louie’s Esherick Jawn In Ches-Hill
Sure, you can admit it: You’ve spent some time salivating lately over some of the city’s newer, more future-bound constructions, like say, those under the Onion Flats umbrella. But this is a city with a keen eye towards history, so when you dig down into your pockets and find, say, $2-3 million burning a hole down there, we suggest you go straight to the source of all your Design Within Reach wet dreams. That’s right, Louis I. Kahn’s Esherick House in Chestnut Hill is going up on auction later this month. Take a look at this piece of utter, jaw-dropping awesomeness. Kahn worked on this house from 1959-1961 — the golden age of futuristic rad Tetris boxes, you know, prior to the second golden age we’re living in now — and here are the particulars:
Two-story structure comprised of one bedroom, one and a half bathrooms, dining room, custom Wharton Esherick kitchen and large double-height living room, totaling 2,500 square feet
The house will be offered as a single lot at Wright’s Important Design sale in Chicago on May 18th at 1pm CST. No eBay for this hot piece of archiporn, pal. Do you want it? Hell yeah, you want it.
