This Evening: I Know You, Destroyer
>>>> If the shit ever really went down and people were no longer able to do their thing, one of the artists I would definitely consider setting myself on fire for in the public square would be Destroyer’s Dan Bejar (pictured at right casting off an early version of “Foam Hands” as if it was a hoodie). Luckily, Bejar is Canadian, so self-immolation-as-protest would be an extremely unlikely outcome; in fact, if the shit really went down, I’d be right up there in the great white north with him, which at this point, almost makes me WANT for the shit to go down, because America is dumb and Philadelphia should secede. We’ve been over this a million times, people. Anyway, Destroyer are among the only bits of weird and beautiful rock and roll left in this world, and lo, they are every bit worth going to the mat for. They play at the North Star tonight, and yes, it shall be good.
>>> Girl About Town has their “Spring Fling” at the Khyber, pulling off the very-hard-to-attain great four-band blog party bill (trust us, we know) with National Eye, East Hundred, Cheers Elephant and Cary Ann Hearst .
>>> Party party: At the 700 Club, there is the best Latvian disco in town, Foreign Service with Laris Kreslins, Al Pasychn and guest Douglas Armour playing all non-english music. And at L’etage, there is Dutty Chutney with DJ’s M-ski, Mandip, and Phillee Blunt who serve up East and West Indian culture-collision dancefloor FIYAH.
