This Weekend: I Went Out For A Ride And I Never Came Back
FRIDAY:
>>> Look outside: Like I’m gonna sit here and tell you to go to see some indie rock band or DJ night. Puh-lease. That is not where you need to be. You need to be out in the city, flitting from place to place, sucking up as much oxygen as possible. If you are hankering for music, make your own in Rittenhouse Square (it’s legal now! legal, legal, legal!) or sit in someone’s backyard staring at the sky with your iPod. It is now a skyPod. In honor of all of this, there will not be a single proper show or DJ night listing in this entire picks. If you want listings, by all means, go here, and may God have mercy on your soul.
>>> So here’s what’s what: Obama Rally at 6pm in Old City (see this morning’s Rumblings for RSVP info), and the Phils take on the Mets. It’s sold out save for the 500 standing room seats they’re releasing this afternoon, but there is always Craigslist and StubHub and scalpers.
>>> Al Fresco: Rouge, Johnny Brenda’s, North Third, The Rooftop at The Continental Midtown, Cantina Los Cabbilitos, Farmacia, the list goes on.
>>> Anybody’s roof.
>>> And for the art folks, two things: A Major Shout-Out to Heartworks (click at right to view schedule), the weekend-long benefit that you would do well to learn all about, pick an event, and put your weary head to rest knowing that you engaged in a posi way with the art/music/conscious world around you.
SATURDAY:
>>> If the weather holds out, and KYW is saying it is, do this: Minigolf, carousel and ice cream at Franklin Square Park.
>>> Obey the BBQ Ways, listen to The E Street Band and raise a cold one for Danny Federici, he’s given you more good times than you know. Thank you, dawg, you will be missed. Hell, you already are. And my God, man, “Hungry Heart.” Nothing has ever been this true.
>>> It’s RECORD STORE DAY!!!!!!!
SUNDAY:
>>> Rain. Worry about the Phils (8PM, ESPN) and head to Jersey Dan’s ObamaRama, the first for three nights of primary festivities at Silk City. Brace yourself: Next week is going to be a spine-tingling, white-knuckle adventure. Spring has only just sprung.
