Record Store Day Hits Town Saturday, Leaving In-Stores And Special Edition 7-Inches In Its Nostalgic Wake

It’s easy to scoff at this thing called Record Store Day on April 19: On the surface it’s a final gasp from a dying industry. Look closer, though, and there’s a ton of cool stuff going on, including in-stores right here on our doorstep and one-off singles. And c’mon admit it, you were born in a record store. I mean, not literally but, like, that’s where we all began pulling away from the gravitational pull of all that is shitty and depressing in life, right?

Yeah, so in honor of this special day for the music-slinging shopkeeps of the world — did we mention this is a global event? — get thee out to your nearest and dearest (independent) record store and take in everything you can. At Manayunk’s Main Street Music that means an in-store by Kate Nash, who sold out the Troc practically overnight. Over at AKA, meanwhile, the already sweet bill of DJ Julia Factorial, DJ Democracy, and Home Blitz has just been bolstered by a Park the Van Records showcase featuring performances by Pepi Ginsberg (1:30pm), National Eye’s Rick Flom (2pm), The Teeth’s Brian Ashby (2:30pm), and Nick & Tom from The Spinto Band (3pm). All for FREE, and that’s just two record stores of many.

It doesn’t get much better than that, kids. It just doesn’t.
