There’s nothing I can say about Lou Reed that has not already been said literally thousands of times by both geniuses and pretenders alike. So, before we get to the good part, I shall now simply list things about latter-day Lou Reed that other people may find super suspect, but I personally love and am continuously enchanted by:
· The fact that the man now exists in a weird academic rock world populated almost entirely by himself, his lady friend Laurie Anderson and Antony.
· His scene in Blue In The Face. That is some truly fucking amazing hair.
· His guitars. These are perhaps the dorkiest looking instruments to ever be put on a contemporary stage. This is truly not caring taken to a whole other level.
· ”Dirty Blvd.,” shown at right. I have seen this video roughly 3,500 times, mostly in the years 1989-1991 when I watched the same videotape of “Post-Modern MTV” starring Kevin Seal over and over and over again. (Ask me about the video for Aztec Camera’s “Deep And Wide And Tall,” I can tell you all about it.)
Anyway, yes. Lou Reed. So much to love. Lou is playing at the Electric Factory this Saturday night, and we want to take you there.
