Musical Rumblings: Book ‘Em!

>>> The 47th Annual Philadelphia Folk Festival has rolled out its lineup, and before you fall asleep, hold up: Espers are curating a stage! Come August, says Esper Brooke Sietensons, the E-stage will be populated with Jack Rose, The Baird Sisters, and two others TBA. In the absence of Vineland and No-achella, this is looking like your primo opportunity for doing mushrooms in the woods this summer. [PFS]
>>> King Britt’s new label, FiveSixMedia, has just issued its debut release, Pentecostal Fangbread by NYC rockers Power Douglas, who you may remember from Britt’s big freakout afterparty at last year’s Fringe Festival. Fans of TV On The Radio, Phil Moore Browne and related blowout combs would do well to peek inside. [MySpace]
>>> And finally, some news in the ever-shifting world of venues: Glenside’s Keswick Theater (pictured here in good ol’ 1928) — an absolutely friggin’ gorgeous spot for all you CC’ers understandably afraid of making the trek out that way — has been purchased by AEG Live, and would presumptively wind up being booked by Trocadero/ex-Live Nation booker Jon Hampton. The Keswick is a fine venue and if you head out there avoid the easy temptation of going to the Keswick Tavern right across the street. It may be easy and convenient but it is also one of the worst bars on the face of the earth. Get a pre- or post- drink at the Blue Comet up the hill or even shotgun beers behind 7/11 but do not go to the Keswick Tavern. You have been warned.

unfortunately, gtownradioboy, the blue comet shut its doors for good like two weeks ago. i know, i know — i don’t know what tommy conwell’s going to do with himself now, either.

You got some bad info on the Blue Comet. It is open. Maybe they told Tommy Conwell that so he wouldn’t play there anymore. Rockabilly and gravy fries are still being served in Glenside.

i stand corrected! i checked my source, who tells me, “The cause of the 3 days closing was b/c the owner hadn’t paid the electric bill.” so go forth and gravy. they need your money.
