TrailerFest: Lite Edition

trailerfest

After the jump, a few picks for this weekend at the Philadelphia Film Festival. The Fest site seems to be having some problems at the moment, so we’ll try to launch more picks as the weekend progresses. And by all means, if you’ve got a recommend, leave it in the comments.

Help Me Eros (aka: Bangbang wo aishen)

Help Me Eros is a Taiwanese sex journey, but we swear it’s not porn. It’s got more of the sensual malaise you might have found in Velvet Goldmine or Sex, Lies & Videotape, where sex is the province of the bored and scared. Directed by Lee Kang-sheng. Playing Friday, April 11 « 5:30 PM at Ritz East Theater 1.

Son Of Rambow

This is one we’ve really been looking forward to, and seems dogeared to be a Festival fave already: In Son of Rambow, two English boys (one of whom isn’t allowed to watch movies or TV), wind up embarking on producing a home-made sequel to First Blood in their own small town. Impossibly cute but also a great comment on filmmaking and modern life, it should come as no surprise that this one’s directed by Hammer & Tongs, the team responsible for The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Playing Friday, April 11 « 7:00 PM at Ritz Five; Saturday, April 12 « 2:30 PM at The Bridge: Cinema DeLux, with special children’s tickets available.

Violent Saturday

No trailer for this one, but we’re curious about Violent Saturday because of all the simultaneous cylinders it’s firing on: A film noir shot in Technicolor and Cinemascope (wha?), this rarely-seen 1955 heist flick stars Victor Mature, Lee Marvin and Ernest Borgnine, and somehow also calls up the films of Douglas Sirk. OK, we’re there. Playing Saturday, April 12 « 12:15 PM at The Bridge: Cinema DeLux.

Philebrity’s weekly mass-release and rep film roundup, Film Threat, will return next week.
