Musical Rumblings: You Need Coolin’ And Baby I Ain’t Foolin’

pink skull>>> Time honored traditions? We got ‘em. The thirtieth — or thirty-first, depending how you’re counting ‘em — annual Pi Lam Human BBQ is this weekend. Wowz. Lineup includes A Place To Bury Strangers, Oxford Collapse, Japanther, Brown Recluse Sings, Birds of Maya and more, but sadly not, as rumored, This Radiant Boy, who were initially supposed to re-unite just for the occasion. Hey, there’s always 32. Or 33. [Yarga]
>>> April foolin’: Pink Skull have a new LP out called… Led Zeppelin 3, on Free News Projects. No shit. And it’s not so much devil gypsy epic rock music as it is devil gypsy epic RAVER music, a direct nod to Julian and Justin’s early 90s pacifier days. Rave memories, people. We all have ‘em. Anyway, the cover art (pictured, by Matt Leines) is not as good as the cover art of the real Led Zeppelin 3, but it’s not a bad close second. Anyhow, here is an mp3. This record just came out, like, TODAY. [MySpace/FNP]

>>> Early 90s pacifier days not so much? OK, dad. Let’s talk about Guided By Voices. The time they played under the name “Burning Assholes” was one of the top 5 Khyber shows of ever, right? Locals/Phileb pals Greyhounds will go totally meta with this factoid when they do a residency there each Sunday in April (starting this Sunday). After sharing the stage throughout the month with Major Leagues, Adam Granduciel (of The War On Drugs), Jotto and more, they’ll wrap it all up on the 27th with an entire set of Guided By Voices tunes. If successful, they will be the first band to play the Khyber SINCE GBV to actually get a cooler full of Buds delivered and refreshed onstage. Good luck, fellas! [MySpace]
