Nutter Throws Airball, Cataldi Throws Cold Water On Phils Home Opener

I’ve never been so frightened in my entire life.
That’s what Michael Nutter just said about his experience throwing out the first pitch today at the Phillies home opener against the Washington Nationals. Apparently, Nutter’s first pitch was a wild one, but the second try was a stone cold strike. As we write this, Phils lead 1-0 in the 4th, and if the rain isn’t raining on the Phils opening day parade, then certainly Angelo Cataldi is. Get a load of this piss and vinegar:
Now that the fantasies of spring training have been left behind in Clearwater, can we all finally deal with a cold dose of reality here? The Phillies are not going to win a World Series in 2008. They are not going to suc ces sfully defend their improbable division title. They are probably not even going to make the playoffs.
The sports fans of this city deserve a parade down Broad Street, but this is definitely not the team that will break our quarter-century drought. This is a team that will break our hearts.
It goes on. Like that. For much longer. But we’ll not hear of it. It’s opening day, and for the moment, we believe.

Pssst, unless Hizzoner really had no idea what he was doing with his first pitch, I think you ought to proof your headline. No such thing as an “air ball” in baseball. Yes, they’re all balls, but they all don’t do the same thing. Didn’t you just talk to a sportsblogger?
