PSA: Get On Your Philly CleanUp, Son

240 x 160We’ve been lax thus far on putting April 5th’s Philly CleanUp on blast, but no time like the present, right? The CleanUp is Dude’s making good on a campaign promise to get folks to be more engaged with the beautification of where they live, but it’s much more than that. For entirely too long, whole swaths of neighborhoods have engaged in absolutely piggish behavior when it comes to keeping their streets clean, and it’s a bummer. It affects everything. We’re looking at you, parts of South Philly, and we are super-duper-extra-el-malocchio looking at you, Fishtown. Two Saturdays from now, the goal is to:

  • Engage over 10,000 volunteers in a day of service
  • Clean 5,000 residential blocks throughout the city
  • Clean 50 commercial corridors along major thoroughfares
  • Clean 10 neighborhood recreation centers in the community
  • Clean 10 areas within Fairmount Park
  • Remove over 1 million pounds of litter and trash from our city!
  • So please, peruse the Philly CleanUp website, find out what’s going on in your neck of the woods, and spread the word by throwing these tags on your blog or MySpace page. If you will it, Dude, it is no dream.
