This Evening: Midweek Glut

breakoff >>> First let’s get the DJ nights out of the way. As flyered at right, The Break Off will bring queer dance magic to Barbary with no cover. And across town in South Philly, our pal Jersey Dan (aka DJ Next Door) is setting a mellow mood at POPE.
>>> But seriously, tonight’s about the shows. Most glaring is Blitzen Trapper and Fleet Foxes, two of Sub Pop’s latest acquisitions, at Johnny Brenda’s. Both are educated in the backwoods folk-rock of Neil Young, and both have been Best New Music‘ed on The ‘Fork.
>>> Also seriously tempting is the always batshit Xiu Xiu at First Unitarian Church with Kill Rock Stars newbie Thao Nguyen, whose debut We Brave Bee Stings And All ain’t bad at all.
>>> Otherwise it’s Brother Ali and friends at World Cafe Live, local stoners Birds of Maya at Danger Danger Gallery, or Kiwi noise-punk brats Die! Die! Die! at North Star. Or if nostalgia’s your poison, The Presidents of the United States of America play with support from Dead Milkmen’s Joe Jack Talcum at the Troc. For a Wednesday, them’s some good options.
