Today, Wednesday, March 19th, at 5:00 PM at the Federal Building located at 6th & Market Streets, representatives of MoveOn.org Political Action Group will hold a “New Priorities Vigil” in coordination with other candlelight vigils around the country to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the war in Iraq.The Philadelphia Police Department’s Civil Affairs Unit has assigned personnel to this event. The Commanding Officers of the Central Police Division, the Sixth, Ninth and Center City Districts have been notified of this activity.

Civil Affairs are the good guys for legitimate protesters. They’re there to protect speech rights from those who want to put a cork in the protesters through physical intimidation.
You see them amiably walking the crowds around Pride events in the Gaybourhood, and yeah they gotta maintain buffers between the bible thumpers screaming at the Pride events, as well as between the larger weekly gatherings in front of Planned Parenthood (not sure on that one, as the officer generally stays in his or her car).
On the other hand, they’re also the ones who fumble the initial report of fois gras protesters getting “coffeed” by a Standard Tap minion.
