This Weekend: I Was Just Hoping For A Lil’ Bone Thugz
FRIDAY:
>>> Been listening to the timeless caveman sounds of The Black Lips (pictured) on the Hype Machine all afternoon, and we gotta say: It feels good to be alive. Might even fire up the grill in a bit. Fake spring, I fake love you, and the town is alive tonight: The ‘Lips with Quintron and Miss Pussycat hit Johnny Brenda’s tonight, but that ain’t nearly all…
>>> Let Me Ride is back at Fluid tonight, and if you can stop trying to count the awful silkscreened hoodies in the crowd, you may just realize that Art Cubeik and Breakdown are really building something here. Special guests: Kevin Kong and Apt One. Don’t know what I’m talking about? Mixtapes galore at their blog.
>>> Other worthy plug-n-play party of note: The venerable Sorted! at the Barbary, tonight saluting Primal Scream. (BTW: If you haven’t peeped the Ian Svenonius/Bobbie Gillespie interviews, they really are a treat.)
SATURDAY:
>>> Strawberry Mansion — the young buck DJs of the Turbostation crew — premieres their new monthly party “DREAMLAND” at the unlikely-but-possibly-fun-in-a-people-watching-way Level. Says SM’s Luis Angel Cancel of the hipster/hiphop/guido culture clash, “O believe it was Dr. King who once said he dreamt of ‘Skinny tattooed white girls from the suburbs gyrating their genitals in perfect harmony with those of a North Jersey guido!’” Perfect harmony, you say? Damn, I was just hoping for a lil’ Bone Thugz.
>>> Joshua Marcus: He’s not just for Like Moving Insects anymore. Dude unveils homespun tunes from his Reverse The Charges CD along with Red Heart The Ticker, Ramshackle Enterprises and Jack Ohly & Band at the Rotunda.
>>> But really, not a ton else worth talking about, ‘cept for the regular stew: England Belongs To Twee, which this month is England Belongs To Jah at the Khyber, saluting the twee/oi and reggae interfaces, and Phileb house band Jotto headlines JB’s with 3 other bands we have honestly never heard of, WTF.
SUNDAY:
>>> We got nothing. Bloody’s at your house. We’ll be over at 1:30pm. Please have some of that nice blue cheese we like.

The Gillespie interview annoyed me–stopped watching halfway through. The interviews with Childish, Shields and the guys from Krass were fantastic, though.
