Rumblings: What’s Up, Doc?

first person>>> Mrs. Dude, I mean, Lisa Nutter is getting behind at least one film at this year’s Philadelphia Film Festival in a big, big way. She’ll be hosting the Philly premiere and festival screening on April 6 of the doc First Person, which follows six Philly public high school kids in their quest to get to college. “If you really want to understand the challenges of young people growing up in the 21st century, see this film,” says Lisa Nutter. “You will want to get up and be part of the solution.” Also part of the solution/premiere event: Ursula Rucker, DJ Dozia and the Back 2 Basics Band. >>> We’ve reported on local director Erich Weiss‘ doc, Hori Smoku Sailor Jerry, a few times, and were stoked last night to get this frantic dispatch from SXSW from the director hisself, where Hori Smoku seems to be gaining some steam:

Thought you would dig this… my movie did pretty fucking awesome at SXSW… very excited…we got three showings, all of which so far have been pretty great, real crowded- considering where smack in the middle of the music fest… I’m convinced SXSW is just Mardi Gras with tighter pants and more cocaine but I digress… I’m still pretty psyched:

check it- Austin Chronicle gave it an awesome review: http://www.austinchronicle.com/gyrobase/Issue/story?oid=oid%3A601967

Granted, I look like a cro mag in the picture but whatever.

Then firstshowing.net gave it like an 8 out of 10….crazy

Im gonna show it at the Philly fest next mont, try to check it out-

Take care, hope all is well back home

We definitely will check it out, and congrats! Thanks for the note, dawg!
>>> And lastly, another Philly Fest doc we’ll be looking forward to: Richie Ashburn: A Baseball Life, which is the 10-plus years-in-the-making definitive film on ol’ Whitey. [Phillies]
