Musical Rumblings: Austodelphia!
>>> There exists a thing in the biz called SXSW fatigue: Too many years in a row of pressing flesh with the hacks, enduring the sweaty desperation in the air of everyone with a band or show to plug in the street, and generally just thinking that the whole thing is super-fucked. To be frank, it’s part of why we stayed back this year (BUT NEXT YEAR, AUSTIN, WE WILL OWN YOU), and if we can recognize the symptoms in anyone else, by gum, Dan DeLuca has a hoppin’ case of it. His first dispatch from Austin is basically one long heavy sigh, but he does at least dish the list of who among us is down there: King Britt, Nouveau Riche, Chuck Treece, Diplo, Man Man, Dave Pianka, Eastern Conference Champions, Pattern Is Movement, Daryl Hall, Spinto Band, The Teeth and Dr. Dog. When you see any of these folks in the bar next week — including DeLuca — after they’ve come back broken and cold-ridden, buy them a beer. On the condition that they don’t talk about SXSW, because that shit is catchy, yo. And remember: There’s always Toronto. [Inky]
>>> And if you couldn’t go to Austin this year because of airline wallet-rape, fear not: Southwest, the SEPTA of airlines, is now running a Philly-to-Austin direct. [PBJ]
>>> Does A Place To Bury Strangers count as a Philly band if they’re always here and one of the dudes is actually called Philly Jay? Maybe, but either way, they made the cover of the Austin American Statesman today, thereby insuring months of hype to come and that their March 20th show at JB’s will sell right the hell out.
