Noontime Nuggetz: Black Flag At The Eastside Club, 1982
Featuring the young, bearded Henry Rollins. We do believe that this is the LOUDEST Noontime Nugget of all time.

Black Flag never really had that classic punk perversity–they were just a bunch of secretly regular dudes being loud. Whatchoo see here is the template for punk’s dimmer, duller cousin, hardcore. Sure, there was a dopey charm to it and it was fun to leap out into a pit now and then to get black eyes from the sea of elbows and knees, and empty your boots outside the venue because they were full of sweat–but it got boring real quick. Too damn normal.
Rip Taylor: now HE’s punk.

this is one of my favourite tapes (yes, VHS). summertime during the Damaged tour, Dez still in the band. later on Henry gets into a fist fight. how rad! their gig at Love Hall (Broad and South/Rodman) later on that year was cancelled if I remember correctly
I kinda agree with the Lord-sy . . . Black Flag changed alot during their run and at the end became a sort of jazz skronk band (which Gone certainly was). Major Deadheads they were as well . . . . but yeah, Huskers and the Minutemen were less “damn normal” and a better gateway into non-corporate Rock than typical 3 chord punk or hard core
plus, any collective that gives as the brain flush that is the Ginn/Pettibone brothers deserves a history lesson
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2009 alright!

At least Yoko had the decency to cover herself in a bag.

I guess Henry hadn’t moved onto the gym shorts look yet. Ginn was sporting the look that would inspire countless Pavement fans. Great clip. I’m pretty sure that might be the Elks Center(16th and Fitzwater) and not the East Side. I know Black Flag played there later, but that was with Kira on bass.
Thanks for the memories.
