This Evening: Doctor & The Medics

pp>>> I’ve just gotten into this band called My Bloody Valentine, have you ever heard them? I think they could be the start of something really beautiful. That’s a horrible way to lead in to talking about Silk City’s Perfect Prescription monthly night of shoegaze musics and those that are friends to them. But we can vouch: It’s a perfect wintertime midweek party, and tonight, Ports of Call, the appropriately shoegaze-themed band fronted by Rarebirds frontlady Carolynne McNeel, play a set.
>>> More indie, son: Pitchforkers of the moment/Siltbreeze Records wunderkids Times New Viking play at the brand-spankin’ new Danger Danger Gallery, and St. Vincent, who to be honest we’ve never really made up our mind about, play the First Unitarian Church.
>>> Oh, and for youse thinkers out there, our friend Jen Miller is heading up a panel event with the National Book Critics Circle — fancy! — with Inky book critic Frank Wilson about what is, like, killing it with words this year. Big up your brainself at Friends Select (17th and Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia), 7pm.
