Captain Freeshit: Win Tickets To See Daniel Johnston With The Capitol Years

djBefore we say anything, let us just say this: Daniel Johnston is one of the great musical geniuses of the 20th Century, and outsider music my ass, this cat rules on any songwriting playing field, whether you put him up against Jimmie Rodgers or Hank Williams or George Gershwin or even your precious fucking Randy Newman, beardo. And if you have not seen The Devil And Daniel Johnston, the doc about dude’s life that came out a couple of years ago, by all means, Netflix that, pronto. As you may have heard, our very own Capitol Years are opening for and backing up Johnston at the Trocadero tonight. This is bound to bring joy, as well as confusion: The CapYrs’ Adam Granduciel looks uncannily like the young Daniel Johnston, pictured in an early publicity shot at right. It’s going to be like some kind of Dorian Gray genius mirror, and to further complicate matters, here is an mp3 of the CapYrs doing Johnston’s towering “True Love Will Find You In The End”:

We know we just blew your mind, so the least we can do, we’re thinking, is hook you up with a pair of tickets. So let us try. To enter to win, send an email to ihopeiwin[at]philebrity[dot]com with “TRUE LOVE WILL FIND YOU IN THE END” in the subject header. We’ll pick a winner by 4pm, and you will trudge through the snow to see this show, because all that is great and powerful and beautiful demands it. We bid you peace, and good luck.

the guy at the hollywood video on aramingo thinks adam looks uncannily like another very talented song writer. maybe he’s some kind of alien shape shifter. maybe he doesn’t really exist at all .
