Readers Write: Philly Style To No Longer Be A Scorching, Homegrown Embarassment?

I’m hearing a lot of rumors that Philadelphia Style is about to be sold to Niche Media. You’ve probably heard the same things, too. Niche Media is that Jason Binn behomith that started Capitol File in DC when DC Style came out (and killed DC Style). He was also rumored to be starting a magazine in AC called Boardwalk that never materialized (though there is now AC Luxury Magazine).
Whoa, whoa, hold up there: You just named five magazines we would never read no matter how many times we’d already that issue of The Fader in the office bathroom. But we kid. To be fair, this information should be tempered by the fact that there have been rumors of Philly Style’s demise almost since its inception. However, if this one is in fact true, the people who should be quaking should not necessarily be Style staff — because honestly, there will always be enough service press/fluffity fluff out there to employ them — but rather, that old coot PhillyMag. Niche Media knows what they’re doing — check out their other titles on the link above — and as everyone who’s ever picked up an issue, Philly Style, up until now, never has. Could PhillyMag finally wind up with a true competitor if this deal goes down? If so, there may not be a hell of a lot of Philebrity left to rip off. HIYO! Sorry, we couldn’t resist.
