Food Blob: “Things We Ate On Moving Day” Edition
· So as we noted yesterday, Philebrity moved into its new HQ (top secret, don’t ask) and as such, we didn’t cook. But for people who were supposed to be moving, we sure did eat a lot. For lunch, after we dropped off a bunch of donations at Philly AIDS Thrift (we were considering dropping at Circle of Hope, but once we fell down the wormhole of their website, we were so creeped out we had to go somewhere else), we lunched at Philadeli which, as you may have heard, is in its final days. Now, we’ve seen a lot of things bite the bullet on South Street these last few years, but real talk, none of them have made us legitimately sad… until the demise of Philadeli. The by-the-book Jewish deli has been slingin’ it out for over three decades (our waitress Lucille having been there for most of ‘em) and to see it go, well, it just got us thinking about the horrible epoch South Street is in, how it’s all just so wrong, and also, just how many meals we’ve taken in at the venerable Philadeli and how much we’ll miss it when it goes. So much so that we’d like to plan a lunch meet-up one last time before it all closes down. Is anybody in? We’re thinking late next week — as of this writing, Philadeli is said to be open for the first week or so into February — so if you’d like to join us, write to tips[at]philebrity[dot]com. We’ll update once we have a posse together. [FoodAndDrinq]
· But it was not all cheesesteaks and pickles between the boxes and the sweat: We also (finally) hit up Bar Ferdinand’s Monday half-price-bottle-of-wine thing. The results? Grand. I mean, where else can you score a bottle of Dominio de Tares ‘Albares’ Bierzo and Osborne ‘Solaz’ Shiraz Tempranillo for a combined total of $30? Oh, Total Wine, you say? But isn’t that in New Jersey and isn’t it illegal to take it across the bridge? Shhh, what we do is secret. [BarFerdinand]
· But it’s not just us that’s breakinthelawbreakinthelaw. The above-mentioned Ferdinand was also (and like many others, we suspect) rocking a mongrel Center City Restaurant Week menu. Though it may all feel like one gang to you, strangely, Northern Liberties is excluded from CCRW festivities. Talk of NoLibs Restaurant Week is already underway, but the last time the people of NoLibs actually agreed on something was, well, never. That has never happened. [CCPhila.org]
BONUS ROUND: And because we care, here is your cheeseburger in a can. We didn’t eat that yesterday. But, given the chance, we totally would have. [Gizmodo]

So will Philadeli become an earing store or a sneaker store?

I’d say a bank or drugstore.
