Project Ocean: Updating Your 1930’s Water Bill System Since 1988
We’ve been waiting on a new water-billing system for 20 years. What we got instead was….the past 20 years that featured everything from flaky Wi-Fi proposals to the Disney Hole until the city’s major theme was: We’ll Get It Done…Someday. For those of you are not familiar with Project Ocean, we’ll ’splain it for you. It started out as one of those Crazy Ideas to eliminate the punch-card system that city workers were using. It was abandoned a few times but finally debuted on Jan. 2.
“Converting this thing over was a huge effort,” Phillis said. “We had to deal with 30 years of garbage data in the old system.”
