This Weekend: These Weekend Picks Will Self-Destruct In 30 Seconds
FRIDAY:
>>> It didn’t feel like it made sense to even think about Weekend Picks ’til we downloaded Tittsworth’s Winter Tour Mix. It is ridiculous, and the most fun you can have with no money and a pair of speakers. Tittsy is at FLUID tonight, backed up Philadelphiyinz, but that ain’t the half of it, as this is that weekend in January when the lack of normal-type shows and parties connects with widespread cabin fever and the whole thing blows up. If you’re doing it right, this weekend, reading these picks will be the last thing you remember between now and Monday morning.
>>> Peep this listing — “Turbostation 2: Packed In & Spaced Out with DJ Diamond Kuts, White Ts White Belts, Steven Bloodbath, Shawn Ryan, Strawberry Mansion, Oh Murder Inc.” This party is at the Troc, features the moment American Apparell Walnut St. employees meet people who listen to Power 99 un-ironically, and is featured on our favorite episode of Standing Room Only With Eddie Austin yet.
>>> Yo rockists, what the fudge are YOU people bitching about? We served you that Pitchfork shit on a silver platter this week (see below). After you’ve joined the fun in the comments (holy hell, it’s getting like Rock Town Hall in there), may we suggest you go out and interact with other humans at, say, the Freezetival? In addition to Editors (kinda good) and Hot Hot Heat (fucking abysmal), it also has that band Louis XIV that you love/hate because they made that video with the Suicide Girls that you can somehow manage to look down your nose at and masturbate to. I suppose that in the absense of autofellatio, it’ll just have to do.
SATURDAY:
>>> Whoa, where the hell did THIS come from? Glass Candy/Cullen Stalin et al at the Mausoleum. Slept-on party info of the the week, that’s for sure.
>>> Get promosexual: Sell your identity to going.com in exchange for some free Malibu Bay Breezes and VHS Or Beta at the Electric Factory at this Beach Party thing they’re doing. There’s no sand (we emailed them back and asked), but fact is, we bring our own Jimmy Buffet vibe wherever we go anyway. Blow it out your flip-flop.
>>> As we mentioned earlier this week, Akon/Beanie/Freeway/Kid Sister/DJ A-Trak at Solo, with the requisite afterparty at Mad Pussy at Transit. In the immortal words of Tracy Morgan, somebody gonna get PREGNANT. And yes, by “pregnant,” we mean “shot.”
>>> Speaking of pregnant, Juno-soundtracker Kimya Dawson plays the First Unitarian Church, and speaking of “shootout,” Dark Horse & The Carousels vs. The Tough Shits at The M Room.
SUNDAY:
>>> We know it’s not cool, not even close to cool, but something in us in thrilled and still starstruck a lil’ by Poi Dog Pondering, who quite appropriately play at the World Cafe Live. What can we say: The heart wants what it wants.
>>> WHAT THE HELL IS MCNULTY DOING?
>>> And after The Wire, DJ Deejay’s Rock N Roll Circus at the Barbary. Looks like another McInerney Monday for you, pal-o-mine.

Are Joey and the Earthtones still reuniting for the opening slot on that Poi Dog bill?

The best part about the Mausoleum: the charming basketball court right next to it that came equpit with a basketball. Best way to sober up evar.
