Musical Rumblings: Command Performances!
>>> This just in: Beanie Sigel has just been added to what was already looking like the craziest show of the year, Akon/Freeway/Kid Sister/DJ A-Trak at Solo on Delaware Ave. this Saturday. (Afterparty, by the way, is at Mad Pussy/Transit with Nick Catchdubs and a command performance from Kid Sis.) If you go, please send us stories/photos of you and Beanie, currently under some kind of house arrest that still (we assume) allows him to go to Hellaware Ave, and his awesome leg bracelet. Tickets available here. [Solo]
>>> Patti Smith, this is our once-a-month post in which we uncover some kind of news about you, but it’s really just a ploy to once again tell you to MOVE BACK TO PHILLY and be our BFF. Anyway, artistic reactions to the awful assassination of Benazir Bhutto seem to be slow in coming, but we unearthed an improvised poem from Patti’s December 29th Bowery Ballroom show. Here, Patti re-imagines the life of Bhutto like so: “she tossed her hat into a dirty arena/because all of politics is filthy, it’s all filthy/but behind her smile/there was some sense, some sense of hurt/some desire to do something good.” And so on. >>> And lastly, The A-Sides feel the wrath of Pitchfork’s strange on-again/off-again anti-Philly bias, which at this point is as transparent as Fishtown cloudwater. (Come over and we’ll pour you a glass, it has strangely beatific powers.) But you know: Easy come, easy go. In the world of actual, real-life music listening, it seems these days that you’re no one until the Fork calls you out for crimes only the crotchety-before-his-time young chap at AKA Music seems to understand. On the plus side, fans of the band can scoot on over and download the A-Sides sessions for Daytrotter, which thankfully do not require a longstanding lack of sex or internship at the Experience Music Project.
