Musical Rumblings: Candy-Coated But A Tad ‘Explicit’

candygirl >>> When we heard The Yah Mos Def were in USA Today, it didn’t surprise us that much, given the paper’s grab-bag methods and the YMD’s enviable bone structure. Turns out they’re just plugged on the Pop Candy blog, in which Whitney Matheson (huddling at left) waxes briefly about whatever publicists send her way. (Trust us, we get the same emails.) That doesn’t make her affection for the YMD any less warranted, though, even if she does mention the Beastie Boys and South Park. Sadly, the boys’ lyrics are a bit too blue for Matheson’s podcast, meaning their brush with fame courtesy of the-paper-you-get-at-McDonald’s will have to remain in blog form. For now. [Pop Candy]
>>> It’s cold days like this that make us pine for the wacky reverse seasons of Australia, where Christmas is a summer holiday and Easter means autumn. It also means that Spank Rock and friends got to enjoy weather like this before returning to our big chill to keep us occupied every Monday at the Barbary. [Fully Fitted]
>>> You gotta love it when scrappy young Philly bands open for big national acts: Drink Up Buttercup will warm up Fiery Furnaces fans in Penn State, and Gang will bring some vanilla rain to YouTube lovechild Tay Zonday. Keep on spreadin’ the gospel, kids. Your missionary work is never done. [Myspace]
