Musical Rumblings: The Scene Is Now

gregg>>> On this springish day, it feels weirdly good to tell you that Gregg Foreman, former frontman of The Delta 72, ex-junkie 100 times over, the man the messageboards love to hate and the subject of the most unintentionally hilarious Philadelphia Weekly cover story of all time, is… BACK! Again! Sure, he’s been back in Philly on a regular basis for a while now, but this month, it’s Foreman’s world and we’re just living in it. He’s on the new Cat Power album, Jukebox, due out on the 22nd (as well as the accompanying tour), and this Friday, his party The Turnaround vs. Immediate is back at The Barbary with guest Jayson Musson of Plastic Little, and he’s even got a blog (crikey!) called, ahem, The Drugstore aka The Pharmacy. [TheDrugstore]
>>> Foreman may have a pretty good prescription, but it’s the PhillyGirlAboutTown blog that managed to call up tons of local bands of note and get the 2008 dyed-in-the-wool scene forecasts. Click through to find out who’s making new records or on tour in 2008, and who’s just faking it until the bass player gets the message and quits. Well, actually, that is ALL bands, really, but you get the idea. [PhillyGirlAboutTown]
>>> And remember what we were saying about the scene being in flux but that there’s all these great new baby bands just clamoring to find fans and fill the rooms? Right after we said that, we found about five new Philly bands we’re totally loving. We’re gonna leak ‘em out one by one over the coming days, but first up is a band called Cheers Elephant who start up a month-long Tuesday night residency at the Khyber tonight. They invite you to be a part of their “psychedelic safari,” and were kind enough to lay an mp3 on us and you to whet the whistle, as it were. Ecoutez:

Cheers Elephant is seriously, seriously good. Their performace last night was absolutely stellar. If you know what’s good for you, you’ll check them out at the Khyber next Tuesday – or if you’d prefer to wait another week or two, they’ll be playing the last two dates there with another local favorite, Drink Up Buttercup. I recommend going to all three!
