This Weekend: Drink Up, Buttercups

bfFRIDAY:
>>> Wow, have you seen the sufferin’ bastard that is this week’s listings? With Xmas Hangover in full effect — nobody on tour, no money around anyway if there was — the roost will most likely be ruled for the next few week by towering bills of hometown heroes, or, just as likely, you staying home and ruling your own damn roost for a change. Both of which feel just about right on time. Blood Feathers play their first show in a dog’s age tonight at Johnny Brenda’s with The Cobbs and Cowmuddy. The ‘Feathers have been M.I.A. for a while, but are said to be returning tonight with a clutch of new songs and half of the old Mazarin lineup, and full disclosure: We love this band, and you should too. Dig the tunes at their MySpace and tell us if you don’t get a smile as wide as the one Tom Petty’s weed dealer wears.
>>> Elsewhere, not a hell of a lot: If you’re in West Philly, bundle up and see The Low Budgets, who inspire fandom in everyone from the crustiest crust to your lawyer’s dad, at the Mill Creek Tavern; and Sex Dwarf is back at Fluid. Otherwise, it’s Make Your Own Fun, Son.
SATURDAY:
>>> We finally got around to checking out Drink Up Buttercup and we like, we like. Fans of Of Montreal/The Coral/Dukes Of Stratosphere would do well to check ‘em out – they headline The Fire; in other local bandage, go see The Tough Shits if you haven’t already at Tritone with Victor Victor Band and The Jellyhearts. And not like you’re gonna go, but just for shits and giggles, Information Society plays the Trocadero and Robert Hazard plays World Cafe Live; couldn’t they have put the two together at Fluid and made the best Sex Dwarf party ever?
>>> And elsewhere in partyland, Sorted at the Barbary, Hurrah at Medusa, and Crimp Yr Hair at M Room. Pick any of the three, they all end the same way.
