Press Release Of The Week: Hugo Chavez To Team Up With Public Enemy, The Roots, Everlast, Dead Prez And… Sandra Bernhard?

Hugo Chavez to Pump Up The Volume On Heating Assistance With Concert Event
Philadelphia, PA – Jan. 3, 2008 – Hugo Chavez’s next frontier: A benefit concert for heat.
The revolutionary outspoken president of Venezuela is teaming up with organizers/ producers Mikal Kamil and Dan Levin and a slew of music’s biggest stars for a benefit concert to raise money and awareness for 30 million low-income Americans that will be without heat this winter. Public Enemy, The Roots, Everlast, Dead Prez, Stanley Clarke, Sandra Bernhard and more are among the participating artists.
Whaaaa? No, really: Whaaaa? Release continues after the jump.
Using popular music to bring attention to the issue of low-income Americans needing heating assistance, the president of Venezuela and Citgo Petroleum’s Joseph P Kennedy are planning a benefit concert called Artists For Heat. Artists For Heat brings the energy industry and entertainment industry together to raise money and awareness for millions of low-income Americans that can’t afford heat this winter. The pairing of petroleum companies and stars is a match made popular by Chavez.
Chavez’s profile as a magnet to celebrities has been rising in the entertainment industry lately. He has befriended Sean Penn, Kevin Spacey, Danny Glover, Naomi Campbell, Harry Belafonte, and now looks to gain new friends within the music industry.
The 3Kingdoms Entertainment promoted and produced event will be held January 31, 2008 at The Trocodera [sic] in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Citgo Petroleum and Citizens Energy Corporation are title sponsors. PECO, an EXELON company, Clear Channel, Philadelphia Greater Tourism and Marketing, and Comcast are supporting sponsors as well.
The concert, which will include short films and presentations designed to educate America on the heating crisis amongst the poor and advocate for specific change, will be aired on Comcast. Other media partners are being considered. Producer/organizer Mikal Kamil believes “Hurricane Katrina was a prime example of what happens when you sit back and expect the Bush administration to save low-income Americans from disaster. I’m not going to wait for Mr. Bush to throw my grandmother a life raft”.
Revenues from ticket sales will go to low-income families in need of heat and will be distributed by Citizens Energy Corporation and The National Fuel Fund Network.

Pretty funny. At least I hope Philebs is being ‘arch’ here by not giving proper props to the post-Onion “genius” who cooked this up.
Just in case though, C’mon dudes. No link to the PR-wire you got this from? The troc is one of your sponsors and not word one about this on their own website? Every single corporation bolded on there has a P/R arm, and not one has announced this?
If y’all did take this seriously, it’s a brilliant coup for Venezuela’s intelligence agency’s efforts to penetrate the lucrative hipster marketplace. Hugo’s trendspotters know Che’s t-shirts are finally leaving some room in the market for a new mucho macho guerila visage icon. Talks are already going on at neutral FARC camps between Chavez’s likeness and American Apparel.
That would be a good press release.

You guys taking clues from the Ron Paul playbook now?**
Yeah, that link really would have dumped some piss in my Haterade if it wasn’t to something that happened back in December ‘06 (which coincidentally is the last time anyone on Google’s heard about “3Kingdom’s Entertainment” oh wait, here’s something, oh, that’s Philebs still getting punked on this very entry).
So boys, how about a press release corroborating the event at the end of this month (in that blank spot in the Troc’s sched between the 30th and Feb 2nd), not something that kinda sounds sorta like an old event that would give a prankster a template?
This guy’s taking Hugo Chavez and Joe Kennedy’s oil for the poor program from ‘06, tying that up with a charity event from ‘06, and firing it off on what may be the coldest day in Philly all winter in an exercise of, Idunno, agitpranksterawareness?
**Hey, I could be wrong, I mean the Ron Paul 5000 (cough, bullshit) rally back in November did pull out that country singer even though the guy’s website said he’d be touring Minnesota. But for now I’m gonna guess Hugo Chavez’s political and social welfare maneuvering is outta Phileb’s league until American Apparel starts running that t-shirt.
