This Weekend: If You’re Buying Your Girlfriend Her XMas Gift At The Punk Rock Flea Market, She’s Not Your Girlfriend
FRIDAY:
>>> You could feel it in the air today at Fran’s Primo Hoagies: THE SEASON IS UPON US. Chances are, your entire weekend was booked solid a long time ago, so Weekend Picks feels a little more pointless than usual. However, for the benefit of those of you just off the Chinatown bus — congratulations, by the way, you’re still living in New York during its most uninteresting phase of all time — here’s what’s up. The go-to party is looking like Turnaround Vs. Immediate with special guest Ian Svenonius spinning raw, raw soul at The Barbary. We happened to see Gregg Foreman at the Port Richmond Target — also a HUGE party/kid-beating scene this weekend, BTW — and it looked like they were sparing no expense when it came to the tinsel. It’s gonna be a bash for sure, even for those of you out there who like to be so, so over it, to whom we now get to say something we wait all year for the chance to say: Fuck you, it’s Christmas.
>>> Show-wise, Brown Recluse Sings might be the first twee-ish band in modern Philly scene history to have legitimate, quantifiable buzz, and they’re worth every zap of it. They headline Johnny Brenda’s. Meanwhile, it’s Christmas with The Smithereens at the World Cafe Live, which we may not oridinarily bother with, but the title implies lots of jingle bells and rock, so hey, why not, right?
>>> Alternate party scenes you may enjoy: Punk Rock Karaoke at Tritone — somebody please cue up “Institutionalized” by Suicidal Tendencies for this old seasonal-affect vet, please — and Spin the Bottle, the monthly And Dim Sum dance party, upstairs at the Khyber.

SATURDAY:
>>> Right now, we are working on the final lineup for the Philebrity Christmas Pageant at Johnny Brenda’s, which gets underway at 9pm — FOR REAL, NOT ROCK TIME — and costs a paltry five bucks which we are then passing on directly to the Fishtown Branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia. You should definitely come. So far, the pageant lineup includes: Adam Arcuragi, BC Camplight, Clubber Lang Duo, Chet Delcampo, The LaBold Brothers, Daniel McQuade, Feather Mills, Bob Murphy, Orphan Family and Joey Sweeney, all doing something Christmas-y. PLUS, immediately after, Jotto plays — check out their video here — and DJ Steven Bloodbath spins. That is a LOT of kringle in your jingle, no?
>>> Earlier in the day, R5’s Punk Rock Flea Market at the Starlight Ballroom from 10am-5pm allows you to finish up the holiday shopping for the vegan Godspeed You Black Emperor fan in your life. Yeah, that’s right, I just pulled out a Godspeed reference. Crazy day on the Philebs today, no doubt.
>>> And that ain’t all: Aunt Dracula/Beat Jams/Kurt Vile at Tritone is also very, very worthy; Crimp Yr Hair with Adam Sparkles at The Barbary also counts; and Mad Pussy/White Tees White Belts at Transit is just the place you wanna take your uncle/cousin who hasn’t been there since it was The Bank for maximum wavy timelines.
SUNDAY:
>>> Start freaking out if you haven’t gone shopping yet, because today is when it gets craaaaaay out there and it’s too damn late to buy anything off the Internet. Self-medicate and just dive in. Reward yourself with Socket — also sure to be a big high school/college reunion scene — and thus, the Barbary gets their first-ever WEEKEND PICKS TRIFECTA!!!!! It’s a Christmas Miracle! Happy holidays, everybody! Be careful out there, and remember: It’s the thought that counts.

Dearest Philebritys and friends,
Consumer Claws and the Labold Brothers send their warmest of apologies for not attending your Non denominational Holiday Extravaganza. Unfortunately, early economic reports indicate that consumer spending is at an all time low this holiday shopping season. With that being said, Consumer Claws was unable to leave his post in Alaska where he can best encourage the buying and selling of consumer goods or bads…or really bads…or even just plan stupids…goods.
There is only 2 shopping days left!
go to the link below for extra late holiday deliveries!
Just the way Santa would want it.
