Orwellian sock puppet euphemisms like "hate speech" feel more prescriptive than protective. Are we really this fragile, squeamish, and fretful? Any self-respecting fag hag/stag knows that "dyke" and "fag" get tossed around among the more seasoned ranks of De Ghey like so many lisps around a Kenneth Cole catalog. Those words are <i>owned</i>, babies. If anything, when civilians and sundry high-fivers use such words earnestly or pejoratively, it comes off as quaintly backward and pitiful. Is it hate speech if the end result is making the supposed "victim" laugh? Seems that it's only 'hate speech' when the squares and straights use them on each other, since both parties agree that being a "dyke" or a "fag" is an awful thing.The physical assault is the real story.
