Erm Live 8 went off without a hitch because, well, nothing really happened at Live 8. It was like an extended rehearsal for the Elton John show a few days later, with a larger crowd.

On the other hand, a year later I was expecting more of a Philadelphia riot when Lionel Richie had to bail midset because of a rain spattered stage. The fact that Philadelphia didn’t act up over getting deprived its “All Night Long” depressed me. That, and I was personally hoping for some “Say You Say Me” or “Sail On”.

All that said, I’m happy the fest isn’t happening here because it’d just be a big pain in the ass, all those out of towners flooding the ERs with AK47 overdoses, whatever the fuck an AK47 “overdose” is (I’m guessing a not good feeling that mommy and daddy can’t helicopter away … tears ensue, leading to the ambulance).

Oh dear god. Sweeney knows its nothing but love from I. But. Please stop me. Stop me from saying it but I agree whole-heartedly with you Towncrier.

I love this city and I consider myself a Philadelphian even though my ass has been here for less than 3 years. Saying that, I’m really fucking happy I wasn’t raised here.

Gosh. Classic negative Philly-can’t-do-it attitude. You can tell Sweeney is from here. Remember when people thought Live 8 was a bad idea and feared the city would suck at managing it and there would be hell in the streets? (It was fine.) We have no self-confidence. Other cities just *do*, we never get past the fearful worry. You know what, though: sigh, cuz I got some of that in me too.
