This Weekend: No Rock ‘N’ Roll, No No No No

FRIDAY:
>>> It might be this delicious Michelob and the T. Rex blasting in the background that’s giving me a false sense of superiority, but I honestly think last week’s First Friday might have blown out this weekend. Because I’m looking at the listings, Philadelphia, and I am not impressed. There’s some good, sure — there always is — but tons of crud to slug through. But I’m drinking already, so let me do it for you: Billy W. and Mike Tee‘s newly beloved Robotique party at Medusa is one of the few no-brainers of the week. If you haven’t been doing your homework at Dollar Bin Jams, where Billy and Tee both post the deepest cuts of left-field disco they can find, bone up on that, son.
>>> In the live music field, we are torn: Jotto, as mentioned/mp-freed in Musical Rumblings below, at the Khyber, or The Austraiian Pink Floyd show at the Tower Theater. We know it may sound crazy to you and your guitar rock band that we are recommending our intern’s band and a Pink Floyd cover band over yours on a Friday night, but alas: They have raised the bar and you have lowered it. Try harder.
>>> Elsewhere, and of note: Los Amigos Invisibles at World Cafe Live, DJ Deejay‘s CureSiouxsiesNewJoyMode&TheSmiths dance party at M Room.
SATURDAY:
>>> God damn it feels good to see Pylon (pictured) getting their due and being introduced to a whole generation who may have not, back in the late ’80s, methodically researched every band R.E.M. was ever friends with. James Murphy has just reissued the band’s classic Gyrate, and they perform at the World Cafe Live in what must truly be the most awesome victory lap ever.
>>> Sentences not often uttered on this website: “Make a night of it in West Philly!” But seriously, do so: After Pylon (or instead, up to you, no pressure) hit up the Make Yr Break queer dance party at the Bubble House. If the pictures are anything to go by, you may or may not be cool enough for this. But we get the sense you’ll have the time of your life anyway. Say hello to The Gays, we miss them lots.
>>> Happy birthday and welcome back, respectively: Philadelphiyinz celebrate two years of theyself at Medusa, and Dr. Dog pulls the wagon up to TLA.
>>> And this week’s winners for Excellence In The Field Of Option Paralysis are: PaperStreet’s new megaweekly Mad Pussy with White T’s and White Belts at Transit and Immediate! at M Room.
SUNDAY:
>>> Take off work Monday and head up the turnpike to the annual meeting of The Corduroy Club. It’s 11/11. Get it?
>>> Your chance to finally find out if the people of the NoLibs message board have talents other than making you want to eat glass and die: The annual Northern Liberties Talent Show is at Johnny Brenda’s. The jokes write themselves, people!

I had Make Yr Break DJ Bunnystyle at Tritone last weekend with Sgt Sass and others and it was lots of fun.
