Rittenhouse Has Footloose-esque Meltdown, Generates Mountains Of Publicity For Hackish Erotic Art Exhibit

footlooseEvery time we start thinking, “Gosh, how freeing would it be to throw off the hipster shackles of NoLibs and Fishtown and actually live like grownups in Rittenhouse?,” fate comes along and slaps us with his good, strong pimp hand. Case in point: The Rittenhouse Plaza Association’s association’s evicting of Perry Milou’s Gallery 1903 over the erotic seminar classes on offer with “Red Hot,” the gallery’s current show. Now, look, you didn’t just fall out of a tree yesterday, you know how this erotic art scene goes: It’s basically a refuge for people still bummed about swing dancing, chain wallets, burlesque and poetry slams going out of style. Let them have their fun. But this is apparently lost on 1903’s landlord, who’s decided to evict Milou and Co. over the flap. At issue are seminars like “Tease & Denial – How To Drive Your Lover Wild” which seem to be offensive only in that they might make you admit you saw all this shit on HBO’s Real Sex five years ago. But fear not, erotic art lovers/Vanessa Daou fans: The exhibit is presently still up (ahem), and running through the 11th.
